Our Purpose
As I was reviewing one of my favorite bedtime books I was once again struck by the simplicity and directness of our reasons to be alive and to continually attempt to change.
The book is titled "HIT” which stands for ‘Humans in Training' by Jay D. Allen.
I'm hoping the author would not mind me passing on some significant passages to you.
There is an excellent quote by George Bernard Shaw which states, "People are always blaming their circumstances for what they are. I don't believe in circumstances. The people who get on in this world are the people who get up and look for circumstances they want, and, if they can't find them, make them.”
Question: What would have to happen, and what would you like your life to look like in one, three and five years from today in order for you to feel happy about your progress and growth? What relationships do you need to develop? Do you recognize the relationship between happiness and growth?
• If you trust life, you must also trust change.
• A person is old only when he or she no longer makes and effort to change.
• Past and future are the thieves of time (concentrate on the present).
• It is the process that matters; the journey of creating, moment-by-moment.
• Health, wealth, and love are all a matter of consciousness.
• We experience the world not as it is, but as we are. (Concentrate on this one). Don't be fooled into thinking that the world itself makes you happy; it is your internal acceptance of self that ensures happiness.
• In the power of self-control lies the seed of eternal freedom. (Do you feel doomed because you can't control your eating? How would you feel if you had full and total control of amounts and cravings? Wouldn't you feel empowered?)
• As long as there is life, there is an opportunity to change.
• INNER POWER must be cultivated. (You must work on this constantly, and never give up trying).
• As part of the universe, we unfold with it. (Don't wait, be in the present, and accept yourself, warts and all. Enjoy the present, look forward to the future even though we have little control over it)
We need to see how our demanding desires and blind fears, especially our fear of fear, are often the source of our own turmoil. As we progress we begin to see how we are the primary and ultimate cause of our own pain. Inner doubts, fears, impulses, and unconscious motivations all create an imbalance that leads to mental and physical suffering.
Success in weight loss, success in achieving fitness, means working to understand and accept your feelings. You must learn to accept yourself. You must learn to see the good you have. Don't concentrate on lost possibilities (real or imagined). Accept yourself, and then seek solutions to control eating even under tough circumstances. Don't make excuses.
You can do it. Just don't ever give up trying.
