Success vs. Failure

This week's message is to emphasize what should be considered success or failure in weight loss.
Surprisingly it is not the number on the scale that determines success. We cannot expect perfection. It is the ability to deviate from your eating goal, yet be able to get right back on track as soon after the deviation as possible, that is important. It is also important to do this with a minimal amount of self criticism.
Felling guilty is a harmful state of mind while trying to reshape yourself (if there has been a deviation). Use your energies more constructively to get right back on track.
You must stop emphasizing pounds lost over a specific period of time. Instead, begin emphasizing behavior. Ask yourself, "What changes in eating behavior have I achieved?” "Am I eating more slowly?” "Am I leaving just a little bit on the plate?” "Am I pre-planning snacks as well as meals?” "Are my portions smaller?”
These are the elements of success, not whether the scale moves consistently in the direction you want. If consistent good eating behaviours develop over time, you will not only achieve short term weight loss, but, more importantly have an easier time maintaining your weight when you have achieved your goal.
Changing eating behaviours takes time. Be patient, but work at it constantly.
Keep trying, you can do it!
